The ABCs Are Everywhere!

This year in Pre-K we have learned about our ABCs.
We learned that the letters can be found all around us.
The children had so much fun finding the letters of the alphabet on the many cereal boxes that were collected throughout the schools for us.

They were found in even the smallest print.

Friends helped friends with their search.

We were very proud of our finds.

Some times we really had to study the cereal boxes for a long time.

April Showers Bring May Flowers

Today in Pre-K we began learning about seeds, plants and flowers.
We started with the book I Am A Seed
Our sand table is full of potting soil, so we can practice planting seeds and caring for plants.

Experiments

Our first science project will be to place bean seeds in "windows" so we can see our seeds change before our eyes.  We hope to see the roots come next.

Jayden prepared his bag for his beans.

And now we wait...

We talked about the stems of a plant and the very important job they have feeding the flower.  We compared it to a straw.  To show them how it works we placed carnations in water that we added food coloring to.
On day three, we see some signs of blue reaching the petals of the afternoon flower. It is very exciting!
Our beans are not very active yet.  Maybe monday we will see signs of germination.

Our class can now see the colors coming up the stems and into the petals of our flowers.  Wow.

The beans are beginning to show their roots.  It has been a slow process, but it is exciting just the same.

Did you know you can plant a potato and get a potato plant? Our newest experiment is one potato, two potato!  We planted one in a flower pot of soil and the second one in a bottle of water.  We are going to wait and see which one grows first. We do not have any predictions yet.
We have decided to plant seeds in a more traditional way also. We placed marigold seeds in little recycled yogurt cups filled with soil and placed them on the window sill in the sun. So we have seeds, soil, sunshine and we will water them as they need.

The Wind Blew In Pre-K

Well it is the first day of spring! In March we often learn about the windy days. We read the book The Wind Blew. Today we created beautiful kites with paint, straws and our own wind power. Lucky for us, the letter this week is Ww.
 Wyndam begins with blue
and quickly discovers he can create new colors when he blows them together.
 Ryan caught on very quickly.
Ian had a bit of a problem with his wind power.
Aidyn was so excited....he wanted all his friends to join him.
 There was no stopping Kylie.
Julien started with a gentle breeze and finished strong
Liam discovered purple, much to his delight
Matthew was full of air and had no difficulty spreading his paint
Kaylen was enjoying her pink and blue making purple
Julianna also had a soft breeze...she had a very delicate painting
Caden's wind was fast and furious. He was done in no time.

Ciara gave it all the wind power she could
Madyson was very excited and had lots of wind power
Caitlyn used a nice little breeze for her creation
Selene enjoyed discovering new colors
Amish had fun with his project
Aiden was eager to show us his blended colors
Tajon could not believe the fun
Brooksana tried so hard to make her colors blow.
Jordan shouted out with excitement when he made green
Christina really had a strong wind for her kite
Jayden was able to blow his colors to make new colors
Jackey had lots of wind for the job
A little hesitant at first, Serenity finally got the hang of it
